Dallas, TX (April 1, 2014) - The Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) announces its 2014 summer concert schedule of fun and free outdoor performances. The Orchestra continues its tradition of performing in Dallas area parks as part of its Community Concert series, stretching from South Dallas campuses to North Dallas venues.

"Casual and free outdoor parks concerts let families enjoy music in a relaxed atmosphere near their homes," said Dallas Symphony Orchestra President and CEO Jonathan Martin. "Not only are these performances fun and entertaining, they are central to our mission to provide great music to those who live in and around Dallas."

The annual Community Concerts Series returns in 2014 with free outdoor concerts to be presented by the Dallas Symphony at three Dallas neighborhood parks and on the campus of Paul Quinn College. The Community Concerts Series will be conducted by Rei Hotoda and feature light classics, movie music and other popular fare. These popular outdoor programs begin May 26, 2014, with the annual Memorial Day Concert & Fireworks display at White Rock Lake's Flagpole Hill.

"I believe that the Community Concert Series is an essential part of my district's cultural landscape (Council District 8) even more so when economic conditions are difficult," said Mayor Pro Tem Tennell Atkins. "Paul Quinn College is a destination point for classical music enthusiast who live in the Dallas area.  We invite everyone to enjoy these beautiful concerts with us!"

"I am pleased the Dallas Symphony will again provide a free evening of uplifting and exciting music to be enjoyed by the citizens of Dallas," said District 1 Dallas Council Member Scott Griggs. "An evening with the Dallas Symphony at Kidd Springs is truly a treat for the whole family, and I invite my friends and neighbors in Oak Cliff to come out and enjoy the evening."

The Community Concerts Series is presented in partnership with the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Department and Paul Quinn College and has been a summer tradition in Dallas for over 40 years. The 2014 Community Concerts Series is made possible by generous support from the following businesses: 7-Eleven, Inc., Clif Bar, Ernst & Young, Exxon, Methodist Dallas Medical Center.

"Our Dallas Symphony Orchestra is a cultural treasure", said District 12 Dallas Council Member Sandy Greyson. "Free outdoor performances bring wonderful music directly to everyone in our neighborhoods, and I am excited to welcome the orchestra back to Campbell Green Park."

The DSO also announces a new partnership with its neighbor Klyde Warren Park for two new concerts presented outdoors and free of charge. A concert May 29, 2014, will feature Fort Worth-based Quebe Sisters Band singing and fiddling Western Swing with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. The second concert June 5, 2014, will feature DSO Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik playing trumpet and leading the DSO in ragtime and jazz.

"We are thrilled to join the Dallas Symphony in offering these concerts at Klyde Warren Park," said Tara Green, President of Klyde Warren Park. "These programs add to the line-up of diverse, affordable, family-friendly entertainment we offer every day at the park, and will increase the attention and excitement surrounding downtown Dallas and the Dallas Arts District."
