Dances of Galanta
Beethoven caused a stir with his iconoclastic First Symphony that bade farewell to the 18th century and took a bold new step into the future. Continuing the theme of bold and new, experience the US premiere of Bryce Dessner’s Trombone Concerto. Written to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Budapest Philharmonic Society, Kodály’s frenetic dances are packed with rowdy Hungarian folk tunes he learned from the local gypsy band of his childhood town of Galánta.
