Mozart's Jupiter Symphony - CANCELLED

March 19-22 | 2020

Bernard Labadie CONDUCTS
Benedetto Lupo PIANO

Chaconne from Idomeneo

Piano Concerto No. 23

Symphony No. 41, “Jupiter”

Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony — aptly named for the king of the gods — puts us on a trajectory from the spirited first movement, with trumpets and drums lending a regal air, to a magnificent fugue in the exuberant finale. Often seen as a harbinger of the Romantic period, Mozart’s intimate A Major Piano Concerto with a sunny disposition engages us with poignancy and serenity, making it one of his most popular.

“Labadie’s performance of Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 was full of contrast. Contrast in tempo. Contrast in dynamics. Contrast in balance. In short, a more varied or feistier performance would be hard to imagine.”
