Over 30,000 students and teachers from the Dallas/Fort Worth area attend the DSO's Youth Concerts each year! The Youth Concert series presents three different programs each year for students in grades PreK-6.
2018/19 Youth Concerts:
Beethoven & Bernstein
November 14 & 15
The DSO celebrates the 100th birthday of the American musical genius, Leonard Bernstein, by pairing his music with that of the composer he loved the most: Beethoven. From Beethoven’s 5th Symphony to Bernstein’s West Side Story, this concert takes a fascinating look at how one master inspired another.
I Am a Musician
January 23 & 24
Get to know the musicians of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra up close and personal! Musicians will talk about what it means to be a musician, how their instrument fits into the fabric of the orchestra, and play some of their favorite pieces. This concert will also feature some extremely talented students from the DSO’s Young Strings program as they play with the full orchestra.
Carnegie Hall’s The Orchestra Swings
May 1 & 2
“Swing” is many things. It’s a distinctive rhythmic feel, a musical era, a style of dance, and that elusive but unmistakable feeling that results when musicians are deeply tuned into each other. Though swing is characteristically associated with jazz, an orchestra can also swing. Through hands-on activities, and a culminating interactive performance with the DSO, students will explore the elements that contribute to that magical moment when the orchestra starts to swing.
